Southwest Connecticut was hit hard last weekend by Tropical Storm Ernesto. Now both Darien and Norwalk are appealing to Governor Jodi Rell (R-CT) to declare a state of emergency so that they can receive federal assistance to cover costs.
In Darien, Selectwoman Evonne Klein says that with cleanup costs and the overtime pay to both city employees and contracted cleaning crews, they?re estimating more than $50,000 in damage. Norwalk officials say the flooding in town began before the storm, making Ernesto?s extensive damage that much worse.
Both towns have already applied for state of emergency to be declared, they are now waiting for Governor Rell to take action.
