State and local officials gathered Friday to celebrate the opening of Stamford Health's new behavioral health outpatient office at the Tully Health Center.
Doctors at Stamford Health say there is a huge need in the community for psychiatric care.
For the last nine years, Stamford Health's Community Health Needs Assessment has found behavioral health as the city's biggest unmet health need.
"For far too long, the patients would go see their primary care doctors who were in need of behavioral health," said Dr. Raviv B. Berlin, chair of Stamford Health's Department of Psychiatry.
He said now primary care doctors at Stamford Health will be able to provide patient care for psychiatric evaluation, medication management and psychotherapy.
