A Connecticut-based nonprofit is stepping in to help after devastating earthquakes struck Venezuela.

AmeriCares, headquartered in Stamford, is mobilizing emergency medical aid and supplies to assist victims.

Officials say the South American country was hit by back-to-back earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.6 in magnitude.

The powerful quakes reduced buildings to rubble as rescue teams rushed to find survivors.

Authorities say the death toll climbed to at least 235, with more than 4,300 people injured.

AmeriCares says it is working to get critical supplies to affected communities as recovery efforts continue.

Officials say those who want to help can donate at Americares.org.
