The Stamford Police Department has identified a man found dead along a popular path in Harbor Point.

Investigators identified him as 20-year-old Modesto Santiago-Gomez. He is believed to be homeless. Next of kin and the Guatemalan consulate were notified.

The medical examiner has not determined the cause and manner of death.

The police department called the death suspicious and is proceeding with this death investigation as a criminal incident.

On Thursday, Harbor Point neighbors called the find "shocking," "scary" and "alarming." Harbor Point is a popular place to live in Stamford with high-end apartment buildings, restaurants and the waterfront.
