Flag Day is being celebrated Wednesday across southwestern Connecticut, including at the Julia Stark Elementary School in Stamford.
The school has been celebrating Flag Day for more than a decade to remember the origins and traditions of the flag as well as what it symbolizes. Hundreds of kindergarten through fifth-grade students waved the American flag along with veterans to honor the special day. Music and the traditional raising of the flag were also part of the ceremony.
State Senator Andrew McDonald (D-Stamford), who graduated from Stark Elementary, said there is no greater banner in the world than the one honored on Flag Day.
