A Stamford park is getting a much-needed makeover thanks to nearly $2 million in federal funding.
State leaders gathered Monday at Boccuzzi Park to celebrate the grant.
The money will be used for adding a splash pad, water play area and a playground. The tennis and basketball courts will be moved, and the park will feature more lawn and parking space.
Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons says it's important to target communities with little access to outdoor recreation.
"The enhancements at this park are part of that broader vision for the city so that we can add more green spaces, which we know are so important for wellness and mental health, and also social cohesion and connectedness for our city," said Simmons.
Stamford is undergoing a strategic plan to make sure every resident has access to a quality park within a 10-minute walk from their homes.
