Gov. Ned Lamont announced Thursday the expansion of 20 new preschool classes in Bridgeport, Norwalk, Stamford, Stratford, Derby, and Watertown.

In total, they will serve 500 children.

The classes are funded by the state's new Early Childhood Education Endowment.

According to Lamont's office, the endowment will fund the largest expansion of early childhood education programs in the state's history.

Starting in July 2027, families enrolled in the fund who make under $100,000 a year will receive free child care.

Families who earn more than $100,000 annually will pay a reduced cost.
