State lawmakers signed off on Gov. Ned Lamont's emergency declaration Wednesday.
Leaders from both parties signed off on the measure in a special committee meeting.
For the next six months, the governor will have sweeping powers to order quarantines and school closures. Lamont says he will only take action after consulting state lawmakers.
Legislative leaders are meeting Wednesday to decide how the rest of this year's General Assembly session will proceed amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Several big issues are still on the table, including the state budget, legalizing marijuana and sports betting.
Meanwhile, the Connecticut Insurance Department tweeted that the commissioner sent a notice to all travel insurers in the state to accommodate travel cancellation requests.
