State leaders propose new safeguards on AI involvement in health care coverage

Connecticut officials are set to announce a plan Wednesday aimed at limiting the use of artificial intelligence in health care decisions.
State Comptroller Sean Scanlon says the proposal would protect more than 270,000 members enrolled in the State Employee Health Plan and Partnership Plan from potential harm caused by AI-driven health care interference.
Officials are also expected to outline a plan to expand those protections to all state-regulated insurance plans.
That effort would be pursued during the 2027 legislative session.
