Connecticut State Sen. Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox is challenging President Donald Trump’s new executive order regarding mail voting.
The policy, which is facing legal challenges, provides guidelines for tracking and handling mail-in ballot procedures.
White House officials call the effort “absolutely necessary to prevent ballot fraud and keep the voting process secure."
However, critics like Gadkar-Wilcox argue that it poses a threat to American democracy.
“We have to make sure that every voter is able to cast their vote. We should be making voting more accessible, not creating rules at the last minute that will make the system chaotic, that will prevent people from actually receiving their ballots,” she said.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal has also voiced opposition to the policy, calling it “reckless” and “designed to prevent millions of Americans from voting.”
