Health care advocates have launched a new program to try and ensure residents have access to quality and affordable care.
The Health Justice NOW campaign is a statewide effort to protect coverage and extend access to affordable care.
Advocates say Medicaid cuts have impacted immigrant and working class families and caused many to lose their coverage. Others have seen the price of their coverage increase.
They say they want state leaders leaders to minimize people's risk of having medical debt and want companies to cover essential health benefits.
"People still need to go see a doctor. The question when they go who pays for it? Here in Connecticut we don't have the luxury passing a bill and then putting out a mean tweet and forgetting about what happened. We have to take care of our neighbors we have to take care of one another," says state Sen. Matt Lesser (D-Middletown).
Lesser says making health care affordable is one of the issues lawmakers will be addressing this session.
