An unexpected and ferocious storm blew through Orange Tuesday, ripping up trees, downing powerlines and leaving hundreds without electricity even as the region experiences a horrific heat wave.
Forecasters say the unusual storm, called a micro-burst, is similar to a miniature tornado. Residents say the storm ripped through their community fast, bringing with it strong winds and rain, leaving people with little time to prepare.
The storm left a trail of destruction in its wake, not least of which was a huge tree deposited on Orange resident Morris Batter?s home. Debris is blocking some roads and many residents say they feel trapped. The town?s maintenance department has already started cleaning up and will work overtime until the mess is cleared away.
