The new Ocean Resort and Casino officially opened Thursday in the former Revel hotel and casino.
An officially ribbon cutting was held Thursday afternoon with the new owners, along with actor Mark Wahlberg, whose family opened a restaurant in the resort.
The new owners say that they have renewed hope for Atlantic City.
“We paid very, very close attention to what the people said that came to Revel,” says co-owner Bruce Deifik. “What they did like and what they didn’t like and we made the changers necessary.”
The Ocean Resort and Casino has almost 1,400 rooms, 16 restaurants and multiple pools. The casino floor is 138,000-square feet large. The beach and Atlantic City Boardwalk are also right outside.
Atlantic City visitors say that they love the new resort.
“I think it’s fantastic and what Atlantic City needs,” says one visitor. “It’s going to bring people down [to Atlantic City] and have a lot of fun.”
Shortly after the ribbon cutting, the casino also officially began taking sports bets. The sports book is being operated by William Hill Sports Book, which is also running sports betting at Monmouth Park Racetrack.
“You can feel the energy. You can talk about the 7,000 jobs that are back on the market. You can talk about the 3,000 rooms that are back in play. You can talk about the commitment that both of these entities have to being partners with Atlantic City,” says Atlantic City Mayor Frank Gilliam.
The new Hard Rock Hotel and Casino also officially opened for business Thursday.
