A mother and son were arrested and charged in connection to the death of a Stamford woman back in November, police say.
Hector Lopez, 43,  and his mother, Mercedes Collazo Martinez, 60, were arrested and face multiple charges for the death of Iris Lopez.
On Nov. 26, 2018, Stamford police responded to 80 Pequot Drive. Police say they were initially called to the home on a report of a possible overdose, but it was later determined that Lopez died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.
In a press release, police wrote that the initial investigation revealed that Lopez was unconscious in her apartment and both her husband, Hector and his mother Mercedes were aware of her condition and failed to provide emergency care while present.
Initially, police say they both were arrested and charged with cruelty to persons.
Following the arrests the Stamford Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations Major Crimes Unit, The Office of Chief Medical Examiner and the Connecticut State’s Attorney Office continued to work on the case, police say.
Police say evidence pointed them to believe that the failure to provide emergency medical care to Lopez directly led to her death.
Martinez was charged with manslaughter in the first degree, three counts of risk of injury to a minor, tampering with evidence and hindering prosecution in the second degree. She is being held on a $1,000,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 8.
Hector was charged manslaughter in the first degree, three counts of risk of injury to a minor and two counts of criminal attempt at tampering with a witness. He is being held on a $1,000,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 8.
