The Sea.Hear.Now festival music and surfing festival will be held in Asbury Park this weekend.
This is the second year of the event in Asbury Park. Last year’s festival drew 20,000 people. Headlining bands this year include Ramsey natives The Lumineers and Dave Matthews Band.
Event organizers Tim Donnelly was in Asbury Park Tuesday working to get everything ready for the crowds.
“People here, they know how to party. They know how to have a good time. You take somebody from the Jersey Shore and you can take them anywhere and they’re going to fit in and they’re going to have a great time,” Donnelly says.
The festival features musical acts, artists and surfing.
Asbury Park has a rich history for musical and artistic talent. Many iconic musicians first got their start in Asbury Park.
To showcase some of the great art that comes to Asbury Park, the city’s iconic carousel building has been converted into a laboratory of sorts for creations by the artist known as Porkchop, who will be a prominent part of the festival.
Porkchop has been living in Asbury Park since the late 1990s - the leading edge of a wave of artists who moved there when the beachfront was still pretty much a ghost town. His murals are now all over Asbury Park.
“There was so many possibilities and so many places to do things. I think there was more creative energy back then,” he says.
The festival will run Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are already sold out.
