Plans for a major rebuild of the New Canaan Library have been unveiled.
The project was unveiled Tuesday and has been in the works for nearly a decade.
A large portion of the library dates back to the 1970s and board members say it's too small and prone to flooding.
The design for the new facility, which would cost around $30 million, includes a number of new features, such as an auditorium.
Officials say $15 million has already been raised by private donations, but the board of trustees hopes the town will provide $10 million more.
The library is a private facility, but it does receive a large portion of its funding from the public.
The oldest portion of the library is a century old, and has historic preservationists saying they would like to see it incorporated into the new facility.
Construction could take a year and half to two years, and will be completed before the current library is demolished so that it can stay open.
The board of trustees hopes to break ground on the project during the spring of 2021.
