The Umbrella Club of Stamford is donating much-needed personal protective equipment to nurses and doctors treating coronavirus patients at Tully Health Center.
The organization says its overall mission is to raise money for children who are sick or who have disabilities, but the company bylaws are written to help all people in need.
"We want to keep it always flexible because we're about helping others at the organization, not just children, that's our focus. But when things like this come up...having the flexibility so we can help people in need: the community. Doctors, nurses, people that need this protection," says Scott Kelley, of the Umbrella Club.
Former lieutenant governor and Umbrella Club member Michael Fedele delivered 13,000 masks given to him by an anonymous donor. The organization matched the contribution with 13,000 more.
"These types of crises really bring out the humanity in us, who we are as people, and who we are as a nation," says Fedele.
He also says this isn't the beginning of the club's effort to provide for health care workers and it won't be the last.
Tully Health Center at Stamford Hospital is holding a personal protective equipment donation drop off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
