Howard Aspinwall - owner of Mellow Monkey in Stratford - says the gift and home decor store he opened more than a decade ago offers a unique shopping experience that's proven its appeal over time.

But he says the pending U.S. tariffs on China, Canada and Mexico does not bode well for small business owners like him.

"I'm worried that they could potentially put me out of business," Aspinwall told News 12 Monday.

"We're trying to figure out whether the products that we're buying are going to be viable for the store once the tariffs take effect," he said.

Aspinwall says he's reached out to his suppliers for guidance, but the response has been uniformly "unhelpful."

"They don't know any more than I do. We're all in the dark and just waiting to see what happens next," he said.
