(10/17/06) STRATFORD ? A Stratford family is suing a resort in Jamaica over the death of a 10-year-old girl.
Jeff and Donna Babineau said they were planning to have a fun family vacation at the Sandals resort in Jamaica. However, they say a resort employee drove recklessly while transporting the family to the facility. Family members say when they asked the employee to slow down, he said ?this is how we drive in Jamaica.? The van was ultimately involved in a crash that killed the driver and Erin Babineau.
The Babineaus urge anyone taking a vacation to read up on their destination. They say crashes are common in Jamaica. Sandals would not comment on the pending lawsuit, but through a statement said they sympathize with the Babineaus. The family hopes to use any restitution from the suit to build an athletic complex in the town as Erin was an excellent athlete.
