Stratford is home to the only African American history museum in the state and possibly all of New England, owner Jeffrey A. Fletcher says.
Fletcher is the owner of the Ruby and Calvin Fletcher African American History Museum.
A retired New Haven police officer, Fletcher has been collecting artifacts and objects related to African American history for years.
Admission to the museum is free, and visitors will be taken on a journey from slavery to the civil rights movement.
"This is a rich history. It’s a difficult history, we get it - but we try to make it as inviting and less uncomfortable for you when you come here," Fletcher says.
