Peace and Diversity Academy students protested Thursday after they ran out of patience waiting for tenants to leave their future Morrisania school site.
The academy opened in 2004 and was only supposed to operate out of Throgs Neck?s Lehman High School for one year. However, The Department of Education (DOE) is having problems evicting organizations from the Morrisania Multi-Service Center. The tenants and DOE are in court over the matter.
The principal at Peace and Diversity Academy says the issue needs to be resolved quickly because Lehman can no longer accommodate two schools under one roof. Educators feel Peace and Diversity students are being shortchanged because they have to take late classes when Lehman students are not using resources, making their school day longer.
