A new study revealed that untreated high blood pressure can lead to serious health problems, besides increasing people's risk of heart attack and stroke.
Findings in the Journal Neurology found that people with untreated high blood pressure had a 36% higher risk of being diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. This is compared to people who have blood pressure numbers that are considered normal, which includes people on medication.
Researchers studied 31,000 people over four years, with the average age of 72.
Doctors say people should find out what their blood pressure reading is and figure out if it is in the right range before major medical problems develop.
The American Heart Association says 50% of people with high blood pressure do not even realize it's high.
Medical professionals say two natural ways to lower blood pressure is to routinely workout and eat foods that are not overloaded with sodium.
