Health and government officials throughout southwestern Connecticut are on heightened alert after reports that the avian flu may have spread from person to person in Indonesia.
Experts say it is not a question of if, but when the bird flu will make its way to local communities. Health officials predict it could happen in anywhere from two to six months, and say the most important thing is that governments make proper preparations. Officials at Stamford Hospital say they are stocking up on medical supplies and disposable ventilators.
Doctors say they are hoping for the best, but planning for the worst.
