The teachers union is reportedly taking action against overcrowding in Bronx and city schools, a problem it says is not going away.
According to a Daily News report, the teachers union has officially filed grievances with an independent arbitrator. The union claims the first few weeks of school crammed more students into classrooms than permitted by the union contract. Teachers say the students end up being the ones that suffer the most by overcrowding.
The city?s education department says the majority of the oversized classrooms were fixed in the first two weeks of school. However, the teachers union disagrees. Union officials say the problems should have been resolved before the first day of school.
