(03/17/06) DARIEN ? Forensic test results released Friday reveal grape juice that sickened about 40 people at a Darien Baptist church ceremony was tainted with dishwashing soap.
Churchgoers who drank the juice February 5 reported a burning sensation in their throats. Police say they have singled out a person of interest in the case, but they would not refer to that individual as a suspect. Investigators believe the juice was contaminated at a CVS store, where other bottles were also found to be tainted in a similar way.
Of the 40 people sickened at the ceremony, five were taken to the hospital for nausea and vomiting. Nobody was seriously injured as a result of the incident.
