The 10th annual Vicki Soto 5K was held Saturday morning at the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport.
Vicki Soto was a teacher at Sandy Hook Elementary School who died while protecting her students nearly 10 years ago.
In her honor, her family created the 5K and the Vicki Soto Memorial Fund.
The 5K raises money for high school seniors who want to pursue careers in education.
The foundation has awarded $325,000 in educational scholarships and provided $200,000 in literacy, education and community enrichment.
Soto's family tells News 12 that due to the popularity of the event, this year it was moved from Stratford to Bridgeport.
They also say they continue to be overwhelmed by the community support.
"It is incredible knowing that 10 years later, people still remember who Vicki is, they still show up for her they still honor her it's absolutely incredible," Jillian Soto says. "I couldn't have asked for a better turnout. Every year it gets bigger and bigger and it's absolutely amazing to be a part of it."
