Hundreds of employees will be furloughed in Edison as of Tuesday evening.

The mayor says some services will be impacted due to the furlough.

Council members were not able to vote on the budget Monday night because there weren’t enough council members present. Of the seven council members, four were present at the start of the meeting - enough to fulfill a quorum.

During the meeting, Council member Richard Brescher walked out of the meeting. That decision left the council without enough members to vote on the budget.

Mayor Sam Joshi said the township of Edison is not in a full government shutdown, but it is on the brink of it.

The mayor said this is a direct impact on public safety.

The municipal council has had the budget since May, according to the mayor, and has not offered any amendments to the budget or spoken up about any concerns.

Council members Robert Kentos, Ajay Patil, and Biral Patel were not in attendance during Monday night's meeting.
