The owners of a restaurant on South Main Street in Newtown say that a tractor-trailer barreled through it early Wednesday morning, destroying it.
The owners of King's Restaurant tell News 12 they're devastated by the accident, but that this is the third time in a year and a half a vehicle has crashed into it.
The owners say it was just starting to make a profit after taking a major financial hit from remaining open during the pandemic.
Botsford Fire and Rescue say the tractor-trailer ripped through the front of the building around 1 a.m., pushing the structure off the foundation.
No customers were in the building at the time of the accident.
Newtown police tell News 12 they're working with the Connecticut Department of Transportation to assess the engineering on South Main Street to see if any changes are necessary.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was transported to Danbury Hospital with serious injuries but is expected to recover.
