The town of Trumbull came together with a vigil for World Suicide Prevention Day to remember those affected by suicide.
September is National Suicide Prevention Month.
Friday's event is called 'A Night to Shine Your Light.'
The vigil was held at the Town Gazebo at 6:30 p.m. and was being hosted by the nonprofit My Friend Abby.
My Friend Abby was founded in honor of local teen, Abby Anderson, who took her own life due to clinical depression.
Members of Trumbull EMS, Trumbull's Prevention Partnership and the Trumbull Rotary Club, as well as local counselors, were in attendance.
Organizers say the goal of the event is to create hope by action.
They say in addition to lighting candles, there was a memorial bellringing, and a moment of silence to remember those affected by suicide and to promote suicide prevention awareness.
Organizers say it's important for people who are struggling know they are not alone.
