The sound of chainsaws rang throughout Trumbull Sunday as homeowners cut through trees ripped from the ground.

The Town of Trumbull said United Illuminating crews worked throughout the night, and an additional crews arrived in town Sunday morning to work on restoring power to thousands left in the dark.

A tree on Porters Hill Road pulled down power lines causing road closure for hours and no power for the neighborhood.

"It was scary. I have never seen this before," said Trumbull resident Jessica Fiss.

David Verespy, another Trumbull resident, said he was thankful to have a generator.

"We have no power…This intersection behind us is sort of a key intersection in town where everything comes together and a big tree fell down and took down the power lines, took down the poles."

Both residents told News 12 they were glad they were OK, and their homes didn't sustain any lasting damage.

The UI outage map said there were 2,119 customers without power as of 5:30 p.m.
