UConn says it will lift its mask requirement in nearly all campus settings Friday.
The announcement was made Thursday.
UConn officials say masking will continue to be required in all instructional settings through at least April 1, 2022.
"While this change means masks will not be required in most settings, the university still recommends wearing them on our campuses. We also strongly encourage each member of the UConn community to continue to be flexible and courteous when it comes to masking," UConn wrote in a tweet.
UConn says the change in policy is based on consistently low COVID-19 positivity rates on its campuses and in the state of Connecticut, as well as high vaccination rates among UConn students and employees, new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance, and changes to state masking requirements.
