When the temperature rises so does electricity use, and United Illuminating is working overtime to meet the expected demand.
UI has brand new transformers on hand as officials say they are the number one piece of equipment to fail when the heat wave hits. They say that's because many were built 20 to 40 years ago when people used a lot less electricity.
To help conserve electricity, UI asks that you wait until 8 p.m. to use major appliances like pool pumps and dishwashers.
