Easton developer Steve Shapiro is pitching a $50 billion, 14-mile hybrid rail and vehicle bridge-tunnel to connect Bridgeport and Long Island, citing economic growth and regional transit benefits.
While proponents argue the project—which now includes tunnels to reduce shoreline impact—will bypass NYC traffic and generate revenue, Sen. Richard Blumenthal has labeled the costly proposal "environmentally dangerous" and a "nonstarter."
