The mother of a woman killed by her boyfriend made an emotional plea to lawmakers in Hartford Monday to make domestic abusers who kill someone ineligible for release.
Corina Zukowski's boyfriend, Avery Hallbrooks, pleaded guilty to killing her in 2018.
"He fatally stabbed my daughter 47 times in her neck, hands, chest and body. Avery Hallbrooks had a history of domestic violence and controlling behavior," said Zukowski's mother, Heather Rodriguez.
Public defenders say the bill is too vague about what qualifies as domestic abuse.
