Water problems continue for dozens of residents in Nyack today after a water main break at the fire district substation.
Village administrator Andy Stewart says the transmission main out of the Water Treatment Plant broke around 2 a.m. Wednesday.
And while there's another line nearby from Veolia (formerly SUEZ Water) that Nyack can use as a backup, that connection wasn't working either.
So Veolia fixed the line while Nyack and contractors worked on the transmission main. "We have guys who have worked 20, 30 hours now. Our superintendent slept on the floor last night," says Stewart.
Water came back on early Thursday morning, but now, there's another leak that needs to be patched. "It came back about 12 o'clock last night. now, it's gone,"
Stewart says that aging infrastructure is to blame for the breaks. "We're spending the money to fix lines, but it's a race against time."
Even when the lines are repaired, a boil water advisory will be in effect for the following residents:
  • Theresa Drive
  • West Street
  • Phillips Lane
  • Benson Avenue
  • Doscher Avenue
  • Hobie Street
  • Patterson Avenue
  • Tompkins
  • Green Road
Free drinking water is being distributed at Plasti-Craft on West Nyack Road and Western Highway
