Westport police say that an elderly woman was targeted by scammers Wednesday.
Police say the scammers called her numerous times claiming her grandson was being held at the Westport Police Department and that she needed to provide $18,000 in bond money.
The woman realized it was a scam after she was able to get intouch with her kids and grandkids.
Authorities say the best way to avoid a scam is to hang up if a call seems suspicious and to tell family about anything that seems fishy.
