? A battery company is warning Bronx residents about a lottery scam that it has been roped into.
Tabitha Ayuso says she got a letter claiming she won about $80,000 in the Swiss Lotto. However, she would have to deposit a $1,889 check from Ultralife Batteries, Inc. and send the money to the Swiss Lotto to ?assist with international clearance fees.? Ultralife says it has no connection with the checks.
Ayuso, who had planned to place her special needs child in private school and buy a home, is warning people to think twice before taking the check to the bank. The checks are returned as counterfeit and the lotto winners become losers who have passed fraudulent checks.
