Rescuers are seeking a new home for a Bridgeport dog who was allegedly beaten, starved and neglected.
Cash, a pit bull, was rescued earlier this month when a landlord reported his former owner, Charlene Draper, for abuse, according to police.
The landlord told police that Draper was beating Cash and leaving him outside for extended periods of time.
Officer Gary Waddell found the dog in Draper's apartment. Cash appeared underfed and was dragging his back leg. It was nearly amputated, but after some physical therapy at the Bridgeport Animal Shelter, Cash is recovering.
Shelter workers say the traumatic experience has not affected the dog's personality. Cash is up for adoption.
Bridgeport police say Draper was arrested Thursday and is facing animal cruelty charges.
