Woman stole DOT service vehicle following multivehicle crash on Route 15 in Orange

A woman was taken into custody after she stole a Department of Transportation vehicle following a multivehicle crash Thursday, state police say.

State police responded to a three-car collision on Route 15 South near exit 57 in Orange at 9:30 a.m.

Before the troopers arrived, a DOT state service vehicle arrived to assist.

Police say a female driver involved in the crash stole the vehicle when the worker exited to check out the collision.

Troopers quickly located the vehicle on Route 15 South near exit 54 and boxed the vehicle in, police say.

A trooper obtained minor injuries while taking the woman into custody. She has not been identified.

It's not known what charges she is facing.

It's also not clear what caused the crash or why the woman stole the vehicle.
