A bakery worker barely escaped being mowed down Thursday when a car crashed through the building of a popular Stratford bakery.
Police say Maria Diaz, a 54-year-old hairdresser, was on her way to work with an elderly client when a mechanical failure caused her to lose control of the car. The car crashed through Freihofer?s Bakery Outlet on Barnum Avenue. A bakery worker dove out of the way to avoid being hit. The worker was uninjured.
Diaz was treated at a local hospital and released. There is no word on the status of her passenger. Some residents say they believe the bakery is haunted, citing a half-dozen similar accidents that have occurred there since 1994.
