Yankee Gas has filed papers with state regulators requesting a 43% rate increase, which would add approximately $46 to the average customer's monthly bill.
The company, owned by Eversource, claims the rate hike is necessary to cover a $209 million loss on distribution costs.
State Attorney General William Tong strongly opposes the request, stating, "Read the room, Eversource. Connecticut families are fed up with sky-high energy costs and can't afford this massive increase." Tong vows to thoroughly review the application and fight for Connecticut families.
Yankee Gas serves over 250,000 customers across 85 Connecticut cities and towns.
