Two Bridgeport businesses were destroyed in Thursday night's massive fire on Seaview Avenue in Bridgeport.
The flames broke out at around 7 p.m. Thursday at the warehouse for the Rowayton Trading Company. Crews from state, local and federal agencies helped to battle the fire.
About 400 residents were evacuated from their homes in the area for several hours. About a dozen people remain unable to turn to their homes. About 1,400 residents in the area lost power during the fire.
No one was injured in the massive blaze, but three firefighters and some residents were treated for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters spent the day Friday spraying down the area.
Officials say the damage is extensive, but add that the fire could have been much worse. The cause remains under investigation.
There are concerns about toxins in local waterways, because more than 1,000 55-gallon drums full of chemicals from the perfume factory leaked into the Long Island Sound and nearby rivers.
The Coast Guard says the waters will continue to be tested. A temporary ban on fishing in the sound from Norwalk to Milford has been lifted, but fishing is still banned from Black Rock Harbor to the Pequannock River.
