Two Bridgeport men were rescued Thursday evening in Fairfield from their overturned boat on the Long Island Sound.
Police say their boat overturned around high tide just before noon when the men were fishing off Black Rock Harbor.
The boat was overturned about 50 yards off the 2A navigational marker near St. Mary's by the Sea. Police say sea and wind conditions contributed to the accident.
Police say Bridgeport residents 55-year-old Felix Almonte and 53-year-old Pedro Castro were fishing too close to the marker and were clinging to the rocks. They say the two did not have flotation devices.
"There are a lot of navigational hazards out here…sometimes boaters that are inexperienced are unaware of the conditions,” said Fairfield Police Lieutenant Lt Robert Kalamaras.
Police say the men were brought to shore and refused medical attention. The state Department of Environmental Protection is investigating the incident.
