Officials say five buildings in Bridgeport were damaged after a ferocious fire broke out just before 2 a.m. Saturday.
Flames incinerated a duplex home on Lee Avenue, then damaged four other buildings, as scores of firefighters worked overnight to quell the blaze.
Officials say propane tanks blew up during the incident. Bridgeport's fire chief says the flames were so hot that they melted the siding of a home one block away on Clinton Avenue.
The chief said that the house where the fire started had been running on a generator for more than two years. Investigators are trying to determine if it was the cause.
No injuries were reported.
