A 9-year-old boy who suffered a stroke in July spent his last day Friday at Mount Pleasant Blythedale School with his classmates.
Rocky Serrano is leaving Blythedale Children's Hospital and preparing to head back to school in Bedford.
"I'm just happy to be doing great," says Rocky.
The fourth-grader has come a long way since suffering a severe stroke.
"When you have an injury to your brain, it affects how we think, how we use our upper extremities to perform our fine motor skills like dressing, bathing, eating," says Dr. Kathy Silverman. "We helped him along his recovery to regain those skills he had lost on July 1."
Rocky was admitted to the hospital program at Blythedale beginning intense therapy and school.
Teacher Corryn Morris-Fisco says everyone is going to miss Rocky.
"We're really going to miss him, but we're so proud of the work he did here at Blythedale," says Morris-Fisco. "He's spectacular. He has an amazing, sophisticated sense of humor, so funny, and his timing is perfect and he is so kind."
Rocky says he will miss the friends he's made, but promises to keep in touch. He says he will take what's learned back with him to Bedford.
