Firefighters in Bridgeport say a garage fire that led to the discovery of a possible puppy mill operation Friday turned out not to be suspicious.
The fire started at a garage at a home on Brooks Street after 1 a.m. and was quickly extinguished by firefighters.
However, officials say the fire marshal was called to the scene, and the assistance of the Bridgeport Animal Control Unit was requested due to "suspicions of a possible puppy mill."
Animal Control later stated that the location of the fire was not a puppy mill, but a structure that housed the family pets. Officials say a cause of the fire is still being investigated.
