Arrest made in '97 murder of ex-Greenwich student
A Wyoming prison parolee has been arrested in the 1997 rape and murder of a former Greenwich High School student.
Susannah Chase was a senior at the University of Colorado at the time of her death. Police say Chase was walking home alone when she was beaten with a baseball bat and left for dead in an alley. Authorities believe the attack was random.
More than 100 people were interviewed in the case. Now, police say DNA taken from seminal fluid found on Chase?s body has been matched to Diego Olmos-Alcalde. According to investigators, the match was made after the DNA was entered into a national database. Boulder, Colorado police learned of the match Thursday.
Olmos-Alcade, who is from Chile, went to prison in Wyoming for a kidnapping in 2000 and was released to immigration officials in July 2007. Authorities say he failed to report to his Wyoming parole officer and was arrested Saturday for violating his parole. He was served with the murder warrant Sunday.
Chase?s family members say they are happy to hear a suspect has been identified and apprehended.
Meanwhile, Olmos-Alcade is being held on $5 million bail on charges of first-degree murder, second-degree kidnapping and first-degree assault.
AP wire information contributed to this report.
