Four Newark high school students are facing criminal charges for allegedly stomping and beating their basketball coach outside of Shabazz High School.
A News 12 New Jersey viewer sent in a video of the assault.
It was not clear what sparked the assault. But the viewer says that the team has just returned from a game in Livingston. The coach refused medical attention.
Newark Mayor Ras Baraka responded to the incident in a statement.
“The actions of these students will not be tolerated and they don’t represent the majority of the school,” Baraka said. “The school and team have many great kids who go on to college and do great things. And we’re proud of them.”
Newark police say that the students will face charges. Their names were not immediately released.
