Auto dealers opposed a bill limiting "conveyance fees" to 1% of a car's sales price on Monday at the state Capitol.
Dealers warned the bill could force them to raise prices or even lay off staff.
"The current state law requires that the fee be reasonable and applicable to actual costs incurred when processing a sale," said Subaru CEO Kathryn Wayland Reynolds.
Similar legislation has failed in the past.
