Best of the Bronx: Bronx Arena H.S. teacher honored
A Soundview teacher got quite the surprise when she learned that she was the recipient of a special award.
Evelyn Rebollar, an English Language Arts teacher at Bronx Arena High School, was presented with the Fishman Prize. The Fishman Prize is a national award that recognizes the most effective teachers in high-need public schools across the country.
The award includes a six-week residency with the New Teacher Project, the non-profit responsible for giving out the award. It also comes with a $25,000 prize.
Rebollar's students say she makes them want to work hard, and she puts the time in to help every kid.
Rebollar was one of only four recipients of the award. There were nearly 800 applicants overall.
